Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Provision

Senco contact detailsThe Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Team work together to ensure that the guidance in the SEN Code of Practice (2014) and Children and Families Act (2014) is implemented to support our students and ensure they learn in a fully inclusive environment.

At St Augustine Academy we are fully committed to providing a high quality inclusive educational experience for all.  All students are treated as individuals and are guided and support to be their very best and reach their full potential.  Our staff across the Academy work together to meet the needs of all students, ensuring that they remove any barriers to learning, which prevent students from making expected progress.

The SEND Team works closely with all staff to promote awareness of student need and training to help teachers support differences in learning within the mainstream classroom.  Additionally, we provide a wide variety of interventions to support students with their academic and social development.

This includes external agencies, such as Specialist Teaching Service, Kent Inclusion Officer, Kent Educational Phycologists, Community Paediatrics, Occupational , Physiotherapists and Speech and Language Therapists.

We work with parents/carers to ensure that they are able to positively contribute to their child’s development and progression.  We understand that parent/carers know their child the best and have an important role to play informing support plans and implementing interventions.

Please take some time to read our SEND Policy and Information Report to understand our approach to supporting all students across our academy with their academic and personally progress. Simply click the links below.

If you need any advice or support for your child please contact the SEND Team on the e-mail above. A member of staff will be in touch to help within 48 hours.

Education People

St Augustine Academy is proud to be working with The Education People’s Specialist Employment Service to embed the supported employment model, adding value across all current careers provision. The contract aims to raise aspirations for SEND students and further enhance schools careers information advice, and guidance programme. The supported employment in schools contract will help mainstream schools across Kent support SEND students through transition and to prepare them for the world of work and into sustainable careers.

Emotion Coaching for Parents

Emotion coaching is an approach that focuses on helping children understand and manage their emotions effectively and was made popular by the psychologist John Gottman and his colleagues.   It has been championed in early years and primary setting, however, we think that it can be useful for our students, helping them to develop into  emotionally intelligent adults.  The picture below guides you through an emotional coaching technique you can use at home with your child and family.  If you do need more support with your child’s emotions and behaviour please contact the SEND Team.
