BackStudents see behind the scenes at the Museum
Posted on: 28th Nov 2022The Maidstone Museum recently ran a ‘Takeover Day’ at the Museum where a school is invited to bring some students along to have an in-depth look at the artefacts. This year, St Augustine’s was lucky enough to be offered this exciting experience by Ros Meredith, Learning and Events Officer.
There was space for only 9 students so it was a difficult task for Year 9 Director of Learning, Mrs Carlo, to choose the lucky students. Mrs Rickett, our Head of Art, also went along to enjoy the event.
Three of the student visitors wrote up a short report on their visit:
“We all really enjoyed going on the trip to the History and Art Museum in Maidstone. We wanted to go as we were all interested in the ‘behind the scenes’ and we all have a great passion for Art. We got to be curators for the day and learn about how the museum picks out their art pieces, but we also got so much more from our day.
We all thoroughly enjoyed being able to tweet on the museums twitter (@maidstonemuseum), seeing the dinosaurs and also being able to have private access to viewing the museums archives. We had the chance to select three of our favourite pieces of art, which will be placed on display when the museum reopens in February.
Being able to interact with certain parts was fun and we all really enjoyed roaming around the museum. Ms Meredith was very knowledgeable about the museum and she was very kind to us throughout the day. We thank her for choosing our Academy and taking her time to teach us what it takes to be a curator. We would also like to thank Ms Rickett for spending the day with us.”
