Commitment Pledge Assemblies

_#knifefree

On Tuesday 23rd January 2024 a series of assemblies took place throughout the school day educating all of our students on the realities of knife crime.

These assemblies were facilitated by the Violence Reduction Unit who aim to work innovatively and collaboratively to keep communities safe.

Our guest speaks for the day were Emma Price - Violence Reduction Unit Co-Ordinator and Sergeant Glen Rickersey – Kent Police

Emma & Glen spoke to students about some real-life stories and the impact that knife crime has had on all associated parties; including the story of Ben Kinsella who was killed 15 years ago, but whose family have continued to be a driving force in raising awareness of knife crime and the devastating impact it can have on people’s lives.

Students were educated around the many misconceptions about carrying a knife, discussions around being an active by-stander and steps to help, before assemblies were concluded with formal recognition of the Commitment Pledge itself which consists of:

Students were reminded of where they can go to report concerns associated with today’s subject matter:

If you want to report something, anonymously be Fearless! Go to their website at www.fearless.org

Their workshop is a vital step towards awareness, empowerment, and creating safer spaces for all of us, and St Augustine Academy would like to thank Emma and Glen for their time today.
