Library Christmas Grotto

Posted on: 17th Dec 2024

The Library Christmas Grotto opened during break and lunchtime on Friday 13th December for the Icelandic tradition Jolabokaflod. Imagine this… It's Christmas Eve, and after receiving a book, you cosy up in your favourite reading nook, or in front of the fire with a mug of hot chocolate, and spend the rest of the evening reading.

That's exactly how Icelandic people celebrate Christmas each year! This tradition is known as Jolabokaflod, which translates roughly to "Christmas book flood" in English. Any books left over at the end of term will be donated to charity for others to enjoy.

A special mention to Inna in year 7 dressed up as an Elf for the event and making the occasion even more wonderful.
